Bristol Hospital Surgery Center

The project goal was to design a Surgery Center that would replace the existing outdated Operating Room Suite with a facility which would meet in-patient needs as well as the growing number of outpatient procedures, well into the future. A major hurdle was to create a separate identity for the outpatient part of the facility while maintaining safe and convenient access for in-patients and staff.

After numerous design options, it was decided to proceed with a freestanding facility connected to the main hospital with a bridge. The design solution is a two-story facility with a partial basement level. The lower level encompasses the Waiting and Registration Areas as well as Pre-Op, Stage II Recovery and Minor Procedure Rooms. The upper level houses the Operating Suite, PACU and Staff Support Areas. The project also includes a new 8-story dedicated elevator tower to facilitate in-patient movement to the Operating Room Suite.

7 Operating Rooms, Cystoscopy Room, 12 Bed PACU, Holding, 30-Bed Pre-Op/Stage II Recovery, 3 Endoscopy Rooms, 2 Outpatient Surgery Rooms, Coffee Shop, Waiting, 8-Story Elevator Tower, Clinical Support Spaces, and Administrative Support Areas.
